A New Cigar Box ‘Uke

I’ve been helping someone build a cigar box ‘uke for as a special gift for a friend. A gift is so much more special when someone has put a lot of thought and work into it. In this case, building an instrument for a musician. I suspect it will be well received when it is presented.

It started with a beautiful mahogany box, with a wonderful ribbon like grain to it. And it is a real cigar box, not something made for making instruments.

Then we built a neck of mahogany with an exotic dark wood veneer on the headstock, and a fingerboard of Bolivian Rosewood.

Then installed the neck to the body and added the fingerboard.

Almost a 'uke

Almost a ‘uke

We hope to finish it completely within the next two weeks. More pictures then . . .
